2009 Paolo Scavino Barolo Bricco Ambrogio
750 ML Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
- Scavino's 2009 Barolo Bricco Ambrogio is impressive in this vintage. It boasts gorgeous depth and richness, not to mention fabulous overall balance. Freshly cut roses, spices, licorice and juicy dark red berries all burst from the glass. There is an understated intensity in the Bricco Ambrogio that is compelling. It will be interesting to see how the 2009 develops over the coming years. Today, the future appears bright. Stylistically, the Bricco Ambrogio is one of the more direct, frank wines in the range.

- Medium red. Captivating aromas of redcurrant, spicecake, menthol, spices and tobacco, plus an element of dried fruits I did not find in the Carobric. Then surprisingly high-pitched and mineral-driven in the mouth, boasting a very suave fine-grained texture and penetrating, pure red fruit flavors enlivened by harmonious acidity. Finishes with very smooth, palate-dusting tannins and excellent length. A very successful vintage for this bottling.
